Resilience coaching for writers

(Re)Discover the joy in your writing, and keep going when it gets hard

Writing is a long game. Somewhere along the way it can turn into goals, deadlines and proving yourself, and the rejections, the self-doubt and the juggling of writing alongside other demands on your time can wear you down. Whether you are writing a novel, a business book or an academic paper, I help writers build the resilience to keep going and to (re)discover the joy in writing.

My approach

My coaching draws on six themes, all centred on one aim: (Re)Discovering the Joy. We start wherever your energy is, tailoring the sessions to you.

a coaching model displayed in a circle with 6 elements. All the elements are desribed in the text below

How I help

Uncovering a helpful mindset and beliefs

The story you tell yourself about being a writer shapes everything else. We notice the thoughts running interference and begin to reframe your story.

Establishing and visualising goals

We focus on setting intentions and enjoying the process you can control, rather than being weighed down by outcomes you can’t control.

Finding time and building habits

A realistic writing routine that fits the life you actually have.

Engaging with your inner critic and banishing imposter syndrome

Finding out what your inner critic is trying to protect you from, and learning to talk to yourself with self-compassion.

Moving on from criticism and rejection

Building the physical, mental and emotional energy to take feedback and rejection in your stride.

Finding a way into your writing

Taking the weight of expectation off and playing with possibilities until something sticks.

Working together

Coaching package: £550

Four one-hour sessions, held online, usually over about two months.

We’ll shape the sessions around what you want to work on, drawing on the six themes above, so you leave with a clearer sense of how to keep writing and enjoy it again. I recommend meeting about two weeks apart, which gives you time to try things out between sessions, but we’ll agree a rhythm that suits you. I’ll send a follow-up email after each session to keep the momentum going.
